Sustainability Consultant in Orange

AECOM’s High Performance Buildings and Communities team is seeking a capable, dynamic, and energetic sustainability consultant to add to their team who will provide sustainable design input into a wide variety of projects. The position will be based in either Orange or Los Angeles office.

AECOM is a unique, multidisciplinary practice that succeeds through the individual and collaborative skills of its people. Working within a multi-skilled group of designers and engineers, the candidate will ideally be a graduate with a background in engineering, architecture, building physics, or environmental science. The candidate must have a strong interest in green buildings and sustainability. Knowledge of green building certification would be beneficial.

The candidate will need to be a team player who can work with others in a multi-disciplinary team, to undertake analysis and produce reports to tight deadlines. The person should be able to develop, and protect relationships with clients and provide a range of services tailored to their needs.

The ideal person must be able to understand and react to the changing design of the overall building/community and be able to communicate their ideas clearly. The ability to develop and communicate ideas convincingly will be seen as a significant strength in any potential candidate.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
• High performance building modelling and evaluation including but not limited to ASHRAE 90.1 energy modeling, Title 24 calculations, daylight studies, solar/shading analysis
• Assessment of project performance against sustainable certification criteria and air project teams in delivering green buildings.
• Assessment of campus energy profiles and application of applicable technologies including input on sustainable masterplan efforts
• Preparing and presenting professional recommendations, reports, and results to clients and teams
• Creating and delivering presentations

Must Have Skills/Experience (Including any required Certifications):
• 1-3 years of experience
• Experience undertaking building energy modeling
• Bachelor's degree required
• Team-oriented and able to work in a fast-paced office with minimal supervision
• Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to communicate problems clearly and simply to clients, engineers and architects
• Strong coordination and time management skills
• Knowledge and experience of Microsoft Office suite
• Knowledge of project economics/project finance and how commercial structure affects engineering approaches/solutions and vice versa
• Strong problem solving skills
• Strong analytical and research skills
• Excellent report writing skills

Preferred Skills/Experience:
• Understanding of low and zero carbon building technologies
• Experience of work in the sustainable design sector
• Experience with energy codes and standards including ASHRAE 90.1 and Title 24 Part 6
• Experience in high performance building analysis including but not limited to daylight modeling, shadow analysis, façade performance
• Experience in building energy modeling tools such as VE IES, Energy Pro, Trane Trace, Equest
• Experience in graphics software such as InDesign, illustrator etc.
• Experience in building energy modeling tools such as VE IES, Energy Pro, Trane Trace, Equest
• Experience in high performance design tools including VE IES, Diva for Rhino, Grasshopper, Dynamo
• Knowledge of sustainability assessment systems (such as LEED, Envision)
• Knowledge of sustainable master planning in particular energy master planning
• Additional certifications/licenses e.g. LEED AP / ASHRAE BEMP are a plus
